However, these 25 hot breakfast ideas will make you want to slow down and enjoy a delicious, nutritious breakfast. Most of them don’t even take that long to fix. For this list, I’ve included a little something for everyone. Whether you prefer sweet, spicy, or savory, there’s a recipe here for you.
1. Mexican Breakfast Casserole
Although they take the most time to fix, breakfast casseroles are actually the best options for people who are on the go and don’t have enough time to cook. It sounds paradoxical, I know, but it’s true. That’s because you can make most breakfast casseroles the night before and heat them the following day! This recipe is one of my favorites because it has a lot of spice and flavor and because it combines all kinds of great, filling stuff – eggs, veggies, cheeses, and sausage – to help you start your day off right.
2. Blueberry French Toast Casserole
This breakfast casserole isn’t as healthy as the Mexican breakfast casserole. Instead, it’s much sweeter and much more decadent, making it perfect for extra special mornings. It combines the flavors of blueberry cheesecake and French toast with just a hint of vanilla flavoring. It takes a little over an hour to make, but it’s well worth every second.
3. Microwave Bacon
If you haven’t tried microwaving bacon, do it! I was hesitant at first myself, but now, I don’t like bacon as much cooked any other way. It’s fast, easy, and convenient. It’s also perfectly crispy and less greasy.
4. Blueberry Pancakes
Although you can use your favorite berries to tweak this recipe to your liking, I tend to stick with blueberries. The pancakes are warm and buttery, and thanks to the use of both baking soda and baking powder, they’re fluffier than most pancakes. They take about 15 minutes to cook, and the combination of blueberries and lemon zest gives them a unique, tartly sweet flavor.
5. Apple Pancakes
If you prefer apples to berries, this is another excellent pancake recipe. To make it, you’ll add brown sugar, cinnamon, and grated Granny Smith apples into your pancake batter. Top them off with a pat of butter and your favorite syrup, and you’ll have a sweet, superb breakfast in about 20 minutes.
6. Peanut Butter Oatmeal Bowl
If you’ve always enjoyed oatmeal but wished it had a little more flavor, check out this recipe. The secret is in all the additional toppings. These oats are covered with peanut butter, blueberries, banana slices, agave nectar, dark chocolate chips, and coconut. You’ll never complain about oatmeal’s lack of flavor again.
7. Bisquick Breakfast Casserole With Sausage and Cheese
This is another excellent casserole you can make the night before and heat up for a quick but hot breakfast the next day. It’s full of all kinds of breakfast goodies, including eggs, sausage, potatoes, hash browns, cheese, Bisquick mix, onions, and peppers. It’s a complete meal in one convenient casserole.
8. French Toast
French toast is one of those delicious, indulgent breakfast foods that’s almost universally loved, but most people only eat it at hotels or restaurant brunches because they’re afraid they’ll mess it up. It’s almost impossible to go wrong with this recipe, though. It uses brioche bread and plenty of vanilla, cinnamon, and maple syrup. It’s sweet and crispy, and you can make it in about 30 minutes.
9. Rabanada (Brazilian French Toast)
If you want to be even more indulgent with your French toast, use this recipe. It uses the same essential ingredients, but it’s cooked differently. As a result, it has a crunchier outside, and the middle has a custard-like consistency that’ll delight every single taste bud on your tongue. The thicker bread also makes it even better.
10. Bisquick Cinnamon Rolls
These cinnamon rolls are warm, gooey, sticky, and sweet, and thanks to Bisquick, you can have them ready in less than an hour. The two-ingredient glaze is especially yummy.
11. Baked Egg and Cheese Casserole
Although this dish is called a casserole, it reminds me more of a quiche. It has a lovely golden-brown crust with just the right amount of crispiness to it. The inside is a cheesy, buttery, eggy treat, and the Italian seasoning makes it herby and delicious.
12. Microwave Baked Apples
These three-minute, three-ingredient baked apples taste so amazing; no one will believe you made them in the microwave. I prefer to add a little brown sugar for extra sweetness.
13. Mexican Huevos Rancheros
I love the idea of breakfast burritos and breakfast tacos, but usually, they fall far short of my expectations. Mexican huevos rancheros, however, do not disappoint. Start with warmed tortillas as your base, and then pile on everything else. The refried beans are incredibly flavorful, containing cumin, onions, pepper, lime juice, and more. The pico de gallo is light, fresh, and herby, and you can add whatever other toppings you want. It’s an authentic Mexican-style breakfast that’s a great start to the day.
14. Sweet Potato Frittata
Don’t let the long ingredients list scare you away! it’s primarily herbs and seasonings, and you can make the frittata in about 40-55 minutes. It’s full of all kinds of savory yummies like cheese, garlic, red onions, peppers, and more.
15. Starbucks Egg White Wrap with Spinach and Feta
If you’re looking for a hot breakfast that’s also healthy, look no further than this copycat Starbucks recipe. Not only is it nutritious, but it’s also tasty, quick, and easy to make. You can even use low-carb, high-fiber wraps to make it keto-friendly. Stuff the wrap with three egg whites, your favorite cream cheese spread, feta cheese, spinach, and tomatoes. After it’s assembled, you can even pop it back in the pan to crisp the outside!
16. Avocado Toast
There are plenty of variations on how to make avocado toast, and this recipe gives you several from which to choose. Whichever way you pick, it’s a healthy, vitamin-packed way to start your day.
17. Latte
Hot breakfast doesn’t strictly mean cooked food items. Most of us like our morning caffeine fix to be hot too, but hitting the Starbucks drive-thru every morning gets expensive. With this recipe – along with coffee, milk, and a whisk – you can make your delicious latte before you ever leave the house.
18. Breakfast BLT with an Egg
If you’re looking for a new way to spice up an old favorite, try adding a fried egg to your BLT. BLTs are in my top 10 all-time favorite breakfast foods, so I make them a lot. Sometimes, though, I like a little variety. Adding an egg gives me more protein to start my day, and it adds a whole new layer of flavor to an already great sandwich.
19. Hot Breakfast Cereal
If you’re trying to get your children to eat a healthy, hot breakfast and all they want is cereal, this is the perfect compromise. It’s oat-free, takes 20 minutes to cook, and requires only three ingredients – water (or half-milk), sea salt, and a rice (or grain) blend. If you want to jazz it up with berries or some other favorite toppings, that’s perfectly okay, too!
20. Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Bowl
For mornings when you’re running behind but still want a hot breakfast, pull out this recipe for apple cinnamon oatmeal that’s done in less than 10 minutes. You’ll make the oatmeal with cinnamon and vanilla and top it with a mixture of almond butter, hemp seeds, maple syrup, diced apples, walnuts, and another dash of cinnamon.
21. Mashed Potato Pancakes
My great-grandmother used to make these for me every year around Christmas, and I’ve never been able to replicate the recipe until recently. With cheddar, scallions, and sour cream, they’ll put you in mind of Red Lobster’s Cheddar Bay Biscuits, making these savory pancakes a welcome sight on any breakfast table.
22. Applesauce Cake
Everyone knows you can’t have cake for breakfast, right? Well, applesauce cake is the exception that proves the rule. Stuffed with raisins, walnuts, applesauce, cinnamon, and cloves, this cake is more like an almost healthy breakfast pastry than a proper cake. At least, that’s what I tell myself every time I have a piece with my morning coffee. 🙂
23. Apple Crisp
Speaking of lies we tell ourselves… apple crisp is made with oats, and oats are 100% a breakfast food. Furthermore, apples are fruit, and fruit is healthy. This is a healthy, nutritious, dietician-approved hot breakfast. Okay, none of that is true, but it’s delicious, especially when eaten straight out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. It’s quite literally melt-in-your-mouth good.
24. Quinoa Breakfast Bowl
If you’re looking for a scrumptious breakfast that actually is healthy, check out this quinoa breakfast bowl. It’s mostly quinoa, berries, fruit, and coconut. It’s a sweet, warm, genuinely healthy morning option, and it only takes about 25 minutes to cook.
25. Mexican Chilaquiles Rojos
If you want to start your morning with an explosion of bold flavor, Mexican chilaquiles rojos are the way to go. This dish has everything, and it’s all piled on top of a bed of crispy, sauce-covered tortilla chips. If you like avocado, radishes, eggs, cheese, lime juice, and a lot of spice, this is the dish for you. Click on a star to rate it!
